Also, Andi & Dave's Engagement Session
Ok, so let me explain ... more often than not, when couples book me one of the first things they will say is something along the lines of; “We’re not very photogenic” or “We’re not very good in front of a camera” and I totally hear that! If you’ve ever seen me in front of a camera it’s a lesson in awkward and uncomfortable all at the same time! But honestly engagement sessions should be ALL about having fun!
They’re a great time to get a gauge on how your photographer works – in my case there will be a lot of talking, walking (some may even call this hiking, I tend to take my couples off-road a fair bit with my sessions...) and some good old fashioned fun times! It’s a time to just chill, have fun and have a laugh. The beauty of an engagement session is that you don’t have the time constraints you would normally have on a wedding day so you can relax and take your time, AND you can pick the time of day, therefore the light as well – bonus! Unlike a wedding day where you might choose to do a first look and photo’s before the ceremony, in the harsh early afternoon light (this is a blog post all on it’s own!), or you may end up with only half an hour after the family shots so will end up rushing through photos to get back to the reception on time.

It’s also a good time to ask your photographer all those questions you’ve been meaning to ask but keep forgetting. They’re a captive audience so shoot from the hip! AND an engagement session will help you to feel more comfortable with your photographer and their camera come the wedding day. Most people forget that your photographer is one of the only people who will be with you two constantly on the day. But long story short – just do you and have fun with your almost forever bestie!
Below are Andi & Dave and their engagement session – two super cool people who, fingers crossed, will be getting married at the end of the year (but you never know what COVID is going to throw at you next …). We spent an hour or so hanging out and getting to know each other while they were in Hawke’s Bay in February, such a great afternoon with these two, oh, and some random dogs! I love animals at a shoot, no matter if they're yours or someone else's!
If you're thinking about an engagement session or would love to get some photos of you both post-wedding get in touch!
